DAILY POST #39

Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalaani – rahimahullaah – said:
It is reported from Abu -Hurairah- radiyallaahu anhu – who said: The Messenger of Allah – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – said:
The young ones should make salam to the old ones, the one who is passing by should make Salam to the one who is sitting, and the small group of people should make salam to the larger one” Agreed Upon (by Bukhaari and Muslim). And in a version by imam Muslim”And the one who is riding should make salam to the one who is walking.”
Agreed Upon (by Bukhaari and Muslim)
Also Transmitted and recorded by imaam bukhaari in his “sahih”#6231 and also imam Muslim in his “sahih” #2160

This Hadith teaches us the following:
1. Respecting those that are more older in age by making salam to them first by the younger ones.

2. it is dislike and abhorrent to frighten a Muslim .In order to avoid this , the messenger of Allah -salallahu-alayhi wasallam command the one passing or riding (or driving ) to make salam to the one sitting. By so doing , the one sitting will feel secured and tranquility as explained by some ulamaa.
3. The permissibility of making salam while riding or driving to the one sitting or walking.
4. The permissibility of making salam between a Muslim(man) and a Muslimah'(woman) if and ONLY if it is safe from fitna.
Though, there are different of opinion between ulama a on this matter. . Al-Qurtubi – rahimahullaah – referred to this in his tafsir. So did Imaam Nawawi in his Shar’h Muslim.
5. it is not allowed to feel pride upon a Muslim because of what one posses like car, motorcycle ,horse etc. That’s why the messenger of Allah – salallahu-alayhi wasallam command the one riding to make salam to the one sitting to show humility and equality between Muslims
Allaahu A’alam!
Baarakallaahu feekum!
