DAILY POST #54
Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalaani – rahimahullaah – said:
It is reported from Ibn Mas’hood radiyallaahu anhu- who said I asked the Messenger of Allah – salallaahu alayhi wasallam
“Which of the sin is the most greatest? He said: To associate a partner to Allah though He alone created you. I said what next? He replied: To kill your child fearing that He might want to share your food with you. I said : what next? He said: To commit adultery with your neighbor’s wife.” Agreed upon.
Transmitted and recorded by Imaam Bukhaari in his ”Sahih”#4477 and Imaam Muslim in his “ Sahih ” #86.
COMMENTARY
The hadith shows the importance of the following:
1.It indicates that shirk(I.e associating partner to Allah ) is the most greatest sin. And this is because that anyone that passes away while attributing partner to Allah Will not be forgiven. Allah says in suratul An-Nisa, Verse 116:
“Surely Allah does not forgive that anything should be associated with Him, and He forgives what is besides this to whom He pleases; and whoever associates anything with Allah, he indeed strays off into a remote error.”
2. It shows how bad and great it is for someone to commit adultery in Islam. And it is even more evil doing that with one’s neighbor’s wife.
3. It indicates that it is Haraam(proscribed) in Islam to take the soul of any one outside the limit of the shariah.
4. It encourages having tawakkal(reliance) on Allah. This is because Allah is the provider of everything. For this reason, someone should not go ahead to kill his child fearing that he might want to share food with him. Allah says in Suratul Al-Isra, Verse 31:
“And do not kill your children for fear of poverty; We give them sustenance and yourselves (too); surely to kill them is a great wrong.”
