Q&A (Fatwa)

#1000: Is Sujud Sah’w Done If The Imam Consistently Makes Mistakes In The Pronunciation Of An Aayah?

“Assalamu’alaikum wa rahmatullāh wa barakātuh… Please I have some urgent question…. If the Imaam made mistakes in pronunciation of an ayat constantly in a rakah.. Will he do Sujud baadi?* Wassalaamu’alaikum wa rahmatullāh wa barakātuh”

ANSWER:

Wa Alaykum Salam Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh.

Know, may Allah be merciful to us and to you, that the Precept that governs the Sujud of Sah’w is that anything which if done intentionally renders the Salaat void will necessitate the doing of Sujuud Sah’w if done by mistake.

As for mistakes in the recitation, then by the agreement of the Fuqahaa, there is no Sajdah on the one who makes mistakes in its recitation except for Suratu Al-Faatiha and that is because it is a Pillar among the Pillars of the Raka’a and in whose absence the Salaat is void. This means that if he mistakenly recites a verse of Suratu Al-Faatiha in such a way that changes the meaning, it will be required of him to observe the Sajdatayn.

And Allah knows best.

Barakallahu fikum
