Q&A (Fatwa)

#1002: Is It Permissible To Begin The Tilawah From Suratu An-Naas Upward?

“Assalam Alaykum Waramotullahi Wabarokatuh Question. During tilawah-tul-Quran, can d reader decide to read from suratul Nas?”

ANSWER:

Wa Alaykum Salam Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh.

What is known, and Allah knows best is that it is better, more rewarding and more respecting of the Qur’an to recite it in the order with which it came, beginning from Suratu Al-Baqarah and through the line down to complete with Suratu An-Naas. This is because there was wisdom behind the current arrangement and the Companions of the Rasul salallahu alayhi wasallam were responsible for this arrangement. To respect the Qur’an is to recite it that way toward completion.

But, as Al-Haafidh Ibn Hajar mentioned in the Fat’h, there is no one of the Fuqahaa that held that this was Compulsory. They all agreed that reciting it in other than this order was permissible and ok.

And Allah knows best.

Barakallahu fikum
