#1009: Does A Muslim Get Rewarded For Giving Sahur To A Non-Muslim?

“Salam alaikum WARAHMATULLAH. If someone give saari to person dat is not a Muslim wat d benefit to that someone”

ANSWER:

Wa Alaykum Salam Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh.

This food is considered as a mere food that is given to a person that needs it. And whether or not reward is derived from the doing of this is subject to the intention in the giving of it and the conditon of the one to whom it is given.

It is permissible to feed the non-Muslim if he is in need and requires that support. But there is no doubt that to give Muslim is better.

However, what is not permissible, in accordance with the position held by the majority of the Fuqahaa is the giving of food to the Kuffaar in the daytime of Ramadaan. The reason for this is that they are in sin for not observing the fast. It therefore follows that giving them such food is aiding them in the disobedience of Allah.

This matter returns to a matter in Usulu Al-Fiqh that researches whether or not the Kuffaar are responsible for executing the details of the Shariah, the Commands of Allah upon the Believers.

The stronger position that was held by the majority of the Fuqahaa, as mentioned by Imam Ibn An-Najjaar in his Shar’h on Al-Kawkabu Al-Munir is that they are and they shall be accountable on the Day of Qiyaamah for failure to carry out the commands of Allah and will not only be held accountable for their disbelief in Him.

And Allah knows best.

Barakallahu fikum.
Jazakumullahu Khayran.
