#1023: On Oriflame Business Marketing
“Question. Salamualaikum warahmatullaahi wabarakatuhu mallam how is the Fasting? May Allah make it easy for us to utilize this period as much as we can and accept our Ibadat. Aamin. Pls I have a question. What’s the Islamic perspective on oriflame business pls. This is a matter of urgency as most of our sisters are going into this business and we need clarity. Jazakumullaahu Khayran.”
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salam Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh.
Alhamdulillah.
Firstly, we apologies for the delay in responding to your question.
Secondly, the little we know about Oriflame is as follows:
Oriflame as a Company was founded in 1967 by two brothers and their friends and today has become an international cosmetic company with direct sales systems in 60 countries around the world.
Thirdly, there is nothing wrong in wholesaling and retailing cosmetic products provided there is nothing that is Najaasah in them.
However we are aware that basically what is done today by Oriflame and its network of Consultants is Multi Level Marketing and we have referred to the ruling of Multi Level Marketing (MLM) generally in our response to Question 846 on the Telegram Channel. There we maintained that the MLM was a Haraam Transaction and you may refer to it for further clarity.
If therefore what you are referring to is a Multi Level Marketing business, then it is Haraam. And those sisters are encouraged to abandon it immediately.
There are several other alternative businesses that are Halaal and blessed for such sisters to go into instead of reducing themselves to marketing the products of Kuffaar and tricking themselves and others by so doing.
And Allah knows best.
Barakallahu fikum.
