#103: Ruling on Paying for Marriage Items that contains Alcohol
Asalamu alaykum wa’ramatullah wa’barakutuhu.
What is the position of Islam in relation to Buying of Alcohol or paying for marriage list requirements that alcohol is listed on. (Giving out cash in place of buying alcohol knowingly)?”
*ANSWER*
Wa alaykum salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh
Alhamdulillāh!
It is not permissible to consume or purchase anything that Allāh has forbidden, or to give money for its purchase.
This is because the Rasūl – salallāhu Alayhi Wasallam – had said:
( إنَّ الله إِذَا حَرَّمَ شَيْئاً حَرَّمَ ثَمَنَهُ)
_”Indeed whenever Allāh forbids something, he forbids alongside it its income and price”_
Recorded and transmitted by Abū Dāwud and declared Sahih by Shaykh Nasiruddīn Al-Albāni and others.
Such as it is harām to consume intoxicants, it is harām to gift it out or to sponsor its cost.
In marriage, the Barakāt of Allāh is needed and engaging in such will go no way in helping to acheive that.
We ask Allah for guidance, āmīn
