#104: Is it required for a Woman that shaves her Hairs to Fast as an Expiation?
“Assalaamu Alaykum”
Does a woman have to fast when she shave her hair, pls elaborate, jazakhallahu khayran. Shaving completely”_
*ANSWER*
Alhamdulillāh!
Same question has been answered by us previously on this platform and a summary of our answer goes thus:
1. It is harām for a woman to shave her hair in its entirety due to what it entails of emulating the other sex.
2. The exemption to this ruling is if there is a scalp disease that necessitates such an action or its like
3. The Ulamā varried slightly on the ruling of the woman reducing the hair
4. The soundest of their positions is that it is permissible to reduce it to a _Wafrah_ (slightly below the earlobes for a woman who has long hairs and has difficulty keeping it tidy or does it to beautify herself for her husband. This is because of the Hadīth that mentioned that the wives of the Rasūl – Salallāhu Alayhi Wasallam – used to reduce the length of their hairs to a _Wafrah_…
5. There is nothing authoritavively narrated in our texts saying that whenever a woman shaves her hairs completely, she has to fast.
That stated, your answer is that she doesn’t have to fast, but to seek the forgiveness of Allāh in that regard.
