ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salam Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh.
Alhamdulillah.
We ask Allah to forgive the dead and to be merciful to them over the sins they have committed and to forgive our sins too and to make the day we shall meet him the best of our days. Amin.
As for the hairs, this would undoubtedly be removed. It is the Sunnah that when the corpse of a woman is been prepared for the shrouding, her hairs, if possible be loosened and washed and then packed in three major braids.
It has been recorded by both Imam Al-Bukhari and Muslim from Umm ‘Atiyyah that she said:
ضفرنا شعرها ثلاثة قرون، وألقيناها خلفها
“We braided her hair into three major braids and put them through to her back”
She means when they prepared the body of the daughter of Rasul salallahu alayhi wasallam.
For this reason, Imam Ash-Shaafi’i, Ahmad, Is’haaq bn Raahawayh and Ibn Al-Mundhir held that it was Mustahabb to braid the hairs of a woman whose corpse is been prepared. Imam Al-Awzaa’i and the Imams of the Kufan school held that this wasn’t required for they feared the loss of hair in the process.
Our point is to say that in the preparing of the hair in braids is the removing of the attachments. This is required.
As for the Nail polish, it is better to remove it if there is ease in doing that and if it will not lead to any delays in preparing the burial so that she returns to Allah free of any additions that may have not been sanctioned by the Shar’iah is better for her.
May Allah be merciful to her.
