#1070: The Ruling Of The Salaat Of The One That Precedes His Imam In Raising Up From The Sujud By Error
Assalamualaikum warahmatullah Ya Amir.
These are my questions Sir.
1. What is the state of the salat of a ma’amum who unknowingly rise up from the final sujud before the Imaam just before tasleem.(without him/her having the chance to go back to sujud before the Imaam rises up). And is there an authentic Haadith that tell to prolong the last sujud in salat before tasleem???.”
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salam Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh.
Alhamdulillah.
As for preceding the Imam to any of the actions of Salaat, then the Fuqahaa have agreed that it is Haraam to do that. The Ahaadith with respect to forbidding the doing of that are many and Decisive on this matter. Of them is the Hadith recorded by both Imam Al-Bukhari and Muslim from Abu Hurayrah radiyallahu anhu that the Rasul salallahu alayhi wasallam said:
أَمَا يَخْشَى الَّذِي يَرْفَعُ رَأْسَهُ قَبْلَ الْإِمَامِ أَنْ يُحَوِّلَ اللَّهُ رَأْسَهُ رَأْسَ حِمَارٍ
“Does the one who raises his head before the Imam has done his not fear that his head be turned (by Allah) into the head of a donkey? ”
And in Sahih Muslim: The Rasul salallahu alayhi wasallam said:
لا تَسْبِقُونِي بِالرُّكُوعِ وَلَا بِالسُّجُودِ ؛ وَلَا بِالْقِيَامِ ، وَلَا بِالِانْصِرَافِ
“Do not precede me in Ruku’, in Sujuud, in Standing or in terminating (the Salaat) ”
For this reason it is Haraam by consensus.
Then they differed as to the authenticity and validity of the Salaat of the one who precedes his Imaam in any of the acts of Salaat intentionally. While some hold that his Salaat is not void, the stronger position which is supported by evidences is that the Salaat of such a person is invalid and he has to repeat his Salaat. This position was reported from ‘Abdullah bn Umar – radiyallahu unhumaa – as was quoted by Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi rahimahullah in Al-Mughni.
If however it was by mistake and in error like the situation depicted, then there is nothing upon such a person. And his Salaat remains intact and sound.
Shaykhu Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah rahimahullah said:
“As for preceding the Imam, this is Haraam by consensus. It is not permissible for anyone to make Ruku’ before his Imaam or to raise up before him or to make the Sujuud before him. And the Ahaadith discussing that from the Prophet salallahu alayhi wasallam are numerous and known… And if he precedes the Imaam by way of forgetfulness or unknowingly, his Salaat is not invalid but he will lose rewards commensurate with what he preceded the Imam with…”
This is also the verdict of majority of the Fuqahaa, the Salaat of such a person is still valid and intact.
And Allah knows best.
