#1078: She Missed Fasts In Ramadan And Wants To Pay Back But Her Husband Insists She Pays As Fidya
“Assalamu alaykum. May Allah ease your affairs and reward you for your efforts. Please is it better for a woman who missed fast to payback the missed days or give fidya. Please what should she do if her husband insist she should give fidya but she’s certain she can pay back what she missed as she even fast voluntary fast.”
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salam Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh.
Amin, and may Allah reward you too.
Know, may Allah illumine my heart and yours, that what is obligatory on the one who misses a fast is to compensate for the days missed by fasting provided the reason for not observing the Fast on Ramadaan is a temporal hindrance that is hoped will disappear. However if the hindrance is one which is permanent such as old age or an illness that is medically proven to be capable or protracting, then such a person resorts to feeding instead. This is the position of the four schools of Madh’hab.
The situation depicted by you shows that your hindrance has been lifted and you can now observe the fast normally. There is no consideration to what your husband prefers here and what is recommended for you is to have a discussion with him in this regard showing and reminding him that this is the command of Allah. Allah said:
“Specific number of days. And whosoever among you is sick or upon a journey, then let him compensate for equal number with later days”
This statement in this regard is clear and requires no further explanations.
And Allah knows best.
Barakallahu fikum
