#1113: On Carrying Non-Muslim Infant That Wear Something With Sign Of Shirk
Question:
Assalaamu alaikum warahmatullah , please what can u said about carrying a Christian baby that cross was hang on his / her neck ora mushrik that hang rope on their babies neck for protection
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salam Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh.
Alhamdulillah.
The carrying of such children ought to be avoided. In accordance with the Obligation of distancing from Shirk and obliterating any symbol of Shirk.
The act of the Rasul salallahu alayhi wasallam is to deface and efface anything he comes across that bears the shape of a cross even if it is not a cross. This is seen in the Hadith that was recorded by Imaam Al-Bukhaari from Aaisha radiyallahu anha where she said:
لم يكن رسول الله صلى الله وسلم يترك في بيته شيئا فيه تصاليب إلا نقضه.
“The Messenger of Allah salallahu alayhi wasallam did not used to leave anything in his home that bore the images of crosses except that he nullifies it”
It may be loosening if it’s threaded, breaking if it’s breakable and defacing if it’s engraved, as Ibn Hajar mentioned in the Fat’h.
This is not to say that carrying such a child is Kufr. Rather, it goes against the Shar’iah and must be avoided.
