#1141: Advice to those Who undergo Intensive Memorization Program for a Year
QUESTION:
Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakaatuh. Here is my questions.
What advice can you give to those who undergo intensive program of one year memorizing Qur’an.
(Isn’t it’s too small ?)
What advice will you give a sister who is about to marry and yet to complete her hifz. Weather to complete it before her marriage or continue after marriage.
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salam Warahmatullah Wa barakaatuh.
Alhamdulillah, as for memorizing the Qur’an, then it is one of the bounties that Allah has reserved for some of His Select Servants. The reward in it is so immense. In the Hadith, the Rasul salallahu alayhi wasallam said :
اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ فَإِنَّهُ يَأْتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ شَفِيعًا لأَصْحَابِهِ
“Be persistent in the Recitation of the Qur’an for it will come on the Day of Qiyaamah making intercession for its Companions”
This Hadith was recorded by Imam Muslim from Abu Umaamah Al-Baahili. About the Companions of the Qur’an, Imaam Ash-Shaatibi Ar-Ru’ayni said that they were the people who memorized the Qur’an and preserved it. Al-Haafidh As-Sakhaawi rahimahullah mentioned in Hidaayatu Al-Murtaab:
و بعد فالقرآن نور مشرق * حامله مسدد موفق
و جاء عن سيدنا محمد * ذي الفضل و الفخر الرسول المرشد
في فضل حفاظ القرآن المهرة * أنهم مع الكرام السفرة
لأنه في صحف مطهره * و هي بأيدهم كما قد ذكره
فالحافظ المتقن قد ساوى الملك *** فاستعمل الجد فمن جد ملك
“And thereafter, the Qur’an is an illuminating light, Its memorizer is guided and Aided
And it has come from our Master Muhammad, the Possessor of bounties and honor, the Guiding Messenger
Regarding the Bounty of the perfecter of the Memorization of the Qur’an, that they will be in the Company of the Honored Scroll Keepers (Angels)
Because it (the Qur’an) is in the Purified Scrolls, and they are in the hands (of these Angels) as he mentioned
Thereby the Mmorizer who perfected his Memorization is equated with the Angels, therefore, apply diligence and thoroughness (in your memorization) for whosoever is diligent will surely possess (his goal) ”
Committing it to memory is just the first step to memorization. The inference from what As-Sakhaawi is saying is that these rewards and Bounties for the one who memorized the Qur’an is reserved for the one who perfected it.
Perfection is the second.
Preservation is the third.
You can never be a true memorizer of the Qur’an unless the Qur’an becomes your Companion and your friend. It is important therefore that those who want to commit the Qur’an to memory realise this. So becoming its companion, its friend, with whom you always are found, reciting, pondering over, is the bigger goal. In that case, there is nothing wrong with having an intensive Programe for the memorization of the Qur’an, provided it will be perfected and preserved after committing it to memory. Just be aware that the Fuqahaa used to say:
“Whatever is memorized speedily is lost speedily”
Our advice with respect to dedicating a one-year intensive program to memorization is to say:
This is not advisable for the one who is memorizing in the first cycle because he is not accustomed to it. However for the one who has memorized before and wants to perfect it, this is very ok.

As for the second part of the Question regarding the Sister who is currently memorizing the Qur’an and wants to marry, then what we advise her to do is to marry and precondition her husband to not hinder, stop, deter or distract her from her memorization rather to support her.
