Q&A (Fatwa)

” Assalamu Alaykum, please I have a question and my question is:
IS IT PERMISSIBILITY CALLING OF SALAT(ADHAN) TWICE WHILE JOINING 2 OBLIGATORY SALAT,1ST CALL WITH LOUD VOICE WHILE THE 2ND CALL WITH LOWER VOICE; e.g joining Maghrib and Isha,I together? May Almighty Allah increase you in faith, wisdom and grant you His Jannat. Assalamu Alaykum”

Wa alaykum salaam warahmatullaah wabarakaatuh

Wa as-salaatu Assalaamu alaa Rasulillaah.

When a people combine two Salaat such as maghrib and Ishaa or Dhuhr and Asr, the Fuqahaa differed slightly in their verdicts.

The position of Abu Hanifah was that a single Adhaan and Iqamaah was sufficient for both. This is mentioned in the Haashiyah.

The position of Imaam Maalik is that they observe two Adhaans and two iqaamahs: an adhaan and an iqaamah for each. Al-Muwaffaq Ibn Qudaamah mentioned this in ‘Al-Mughni’.

Ash-Shaafi’is position is that if the combination was done at the time of the first, then they make one Adhaan and two iqaamah. But if the combination was made in the time of the second, then they should only suffice with Iqaamah for each, without the Adhaan. He mentioned this in his book ‘al-Umm’.

The position of the Hanbalis is that in whichever of the time the combination is made, what suffices is one Adhaan and two Iqaamahs.

The Hanbali position holds the weight in this matter.
This is due to the Hadith that was narrated by Jaabir Ibn Abdillaah – radiyallaahu anahuma – and recorded and transmitted by Imaam Muslim in the Sahih where he said that the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – combined between Dhuhr and Asr at Arafah and between maghrib and Ishaa at Muzdalifah with one Adhaan and two Iqaamah.

Therefore Maalik’s position on this matter is weak, rahimahullaah.
