#158: Ruling on the Purification of a Woman who was Junub before her Hayd (menstruation)
*QUESTION*
*HOW DOES A WOMAN WHO WAS JUNUB BEFORE HER HAYD PURIFY HERSELF?*
_” Assalam alaykum waramatullah Wabarokatuhu! My question goes thus:_
_A woman intentionally delay Nawafil witr till dawn hoping to pray it during tahajud. But in the night, the husband called her for intimacy which she obliged. Before she could rise to take Ghusl-janabah, she found that her monthly period had begun so she could not pray the nawafil witr which she had delayed. Now,
1) How would she make up for this?_
2) Can she delay the ghusl Janabah till her period ends and take the baths together with two intentions or she has to take the Janabah immediately and the other after completing her period?”_
*ANSWER*
Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh
Alhamdulillāh.
May Allāh reward you for your seeking for knowledge and for not allowing shyness prevent you from learning your Dīn. Āmīn
As for the first question, then she is to observe its compensation after she becomes pure from her menstruation.
For the second question, what the Ulamā gave as verdict is that she waits until the Hayd period expires before she observes one ghusl with both intentions in mind.
Imām Ash-Shāfi’ī – rahimahullāh – said:
_”If Janābah afflicts a woman then she menstruates before she had taken her ghusl, it isn’t obligatory upon her thereafter to observe ghusl for Janābah while she is menstruating. This is because the purpose of her Ghusl is to become pure and her observance of this ghusl of Janābah would not make her pure inspite of the Hayd. Therefore, if menstruation is over from her, a single ghusl suffices her. Same thing applies if she experiences wet dreams while menstruating, a single ghusl suffices for her for all of that. This is regardless of the number of wet dreams that she has.”_
Ref: Al-Umm
Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisī – rahimahullāh – said in the Mughnī:
_”If a menstruating woman was in Janābah, it wasn’t necessary for her to observe the ghusl until her bleeding stops. Imām Ahmad particularly mentioned this. This is also the position of Is’hāq…”_
