#196: Ruling on Writing Verses on a Slate and Drinking it

QUESTION

ANY EVIDENCE FOR WRITING VERSES ON A SLATE AND DRINKING?
“Is there any evidence that affirms the prophet or the companions to have written verses of the quran on a slate, washed it off using water and drank it?”

Answer:

Alhamdulillaah! There is no evidence for that. Only that, by the experience of many of the Imaams and the Ulamaa, it works. Then, the Ulamaa, as regards to this are divided into two.

Some of them consider it to be impermissible, and that is the very minority opinion. While others consider it to be permissible and with conditions.

This is the opinion of the majority of Ulamaa including Shaykhu Al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyya and his student Imaam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah.
