QUESTION

CONDITIONS ATTACHED TO WASHING VERSES OF THE QUR’AN FOR DRINKING

“Please, what are the conditions attached to washing Qur’anic verses off items, and drinking or using them, as explained by the Ulamaa (R.A.)?BaarakAllaahu feekum wa JazaakumuLLaahu khairan!

ANSWER:

Alhamdulillah!

We have already explained that it is not all the Ulamaa that agree to the permissibility of it in the first place.

That should be emphasized.
As for those that allow it, their conditions include:

1. That what is written are actually verses of the Qur’an the way it was revealed.

2. The entirety of what is written comes from the Qur’an or the Authentic Hadith Alone. It must not be mixed up with other statements or names

3. The writing material used for the writing must be something pure and permissible in Islam. It was tradition to use things like honey, zaytun, habbatu as-sauda, za’afaraan, etc. Things like blood must never be used.

4. Reliance (tawakkul) must be completely on Allah – ta’ala – to do the healing and the curing and not the verses or the writing or writer in themselves.
