QUESTION
ON MAKING BODY INCISIONS FOR PROTECTION
“@Admin: Please, what are the Islamic rulings on making incisions on the body, in order to achieve certain aims, like protection, etc? BaarakAllaahu feekum wa jazaakumuLLaahu khairan.”
ANSWER:
Alhamdulillaah!
We do not know of anything in the Shari’a or any statement from any of the Salaf to support such an act. As Muslims, we must have certainty that protection comes ONLY from Allaah as one of His names is ‘Al-Hafeedh’. In the Ahaadith, the Rasul – salallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam – prescribed for us verses and supplications to make when we need Protection from Allah from physical and spiritual evil such as Suratu Al-Ikhlaas, Suratu Al-Falaq, Suratu An-Naas, etc.
That is what we should stick to, and not to go about cutting ourselves and applying some potions like the occultists do. Such an act is Bid’a and can lead to Shirk.
