#230: Ruling on Soliciting for something in the Name of the Rasūl – Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam
QUESTION
“Some people put one in a tight corner by begging with, for example “don darajan annabi” or for the love of the prophet (peace b on him). He hasn’t begged using Allah’s name yet not giving would be hard, what should one do?”
ANSWER:
Alhamdulillaahi rabbi Al-Aalamin!
If what you are asking, may Allaah be merciful on you, is the permissibility of begging or asking for something from others using the name/love of the Rasul – salallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam – then the Ulamaa are at a difference on it.
The sounder of both opinions is that it is impermissible to do that.
The reason for its impermissibility is that seeking for assistance from any entity is a thing about which the Shari’a has guided us because it is an act of ‘Ibaadah on its own. In the entire Sunnah of the Rasul – salallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam – there is nowhere he ordered us to do that. The Companions of the Rasul – salallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam – and the pious predecessors too were never reported to have done that.
Instead, they always asked Allaah or asked people with the Name of Allaah, or the Love of Allaah. However, it is permissible to ask using the belief he has in the Prophet, or to say ‘for the sake of whom you love the Prophet, pls help me with such and such…’ This is because, all of these refer to Allah and not to the Rasul – salallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam.
However, if your question is on the obligation or permissibility of giving to this one that asked by the position/love of the Prophet, then we should know that, based on the Hadith that we featured last week, it is only when we are asked with the name of Allaah that we were commanded to give out, and not the Rasul – salallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam – or any other personalities.
Based on that, in such a situation, you are encouraged to correct and to advise such a person and not to give in to his demands.
Allaahu A’alam
