#31. THE FASTING OF THE ONE THAT VOMITED
” I just vomited now,…so my fasting is gone?”
ANSWER
Alhamdulillaah, baarakallaahu feek ya Akh!
May Allah ease what you feel or face of discomfort, aameen.
Know, may Allah be merciful to us all that the majority of the Fuqahaa hold that whosoever induces vomiting loses his fast whereas if the vomit by itself overcomes the one who fasts, his fast is intact and sound.
This is due to the Hadith narrated by Abu Hurayrah – radiyallaahu an hu – that the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – said:
ﻣﻦ ﺫﺭﻋﻪ ﺍﻟﻘﻲﺀ ﻓﻠﻴﺲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻗﻀﺎﺀ، ﻭﻣﻦ ﺍﺳﺘﻘﺎﺀ ﻋﻤﺪﺍ ﻓﻠﻴﻘﺾ
“Whosoever is overcome by the vomit, there is no Qadaa (compensating for the fast) whereas he who induces the vomit must compensate for it.”
Recorded and transmitted by Abu Daawud, At-Tirmidhi and others.
Al-Khattaabi – rahimahullaah – said as was quoted by Sayyid Saabiq in ‘Fiqhu As-Sunnah:
“I do not know of any difference between the People of Knowledge that the one who is overcome by vomit has no compensation to make, nor that the one who induces the vomit must make a compensation.”
Allaahu A’alam
Baarakallaahu feekum.
