#333: Ruling regarding a Muslim hiding His Islam Identity
QUESTION
“A brother ask this question: Salamun alaikum please admin I have a question a friend of mine whose family is a Muslim, given Muslim name now bears Christian name, prays 5 daily prayer and mostly denied being a Muslim please what is the faith of this person?”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
Alhamdulillāh.
This all depends on the reason for which he hides his Muslim identity.
If it is because he has a legitimate fear that some real harm would afflict him and his Dīn that he may not be able to bear, then it is permissible to hide his Islam identity in the apparent, and then ensure to uphold all the Pillars and requirements of the Dīn inapparently.
However if his reason is very immaterial or a means of getting the pleasure of the Kuffār, or a way of aligning himself with them, then this kind of person is a hypocrite who may easily fall into Kufr if care is not taken.
This is because this is against the requirements of Al-Walā Wa Al-Barā which is a Pillar among the Pillars of the ‘Aqīdah and Tawhid of a Muslim. We ask Allāh for guidance and rectitude.
