#345: Du`a to Recite when looking at the Mirror
” Oh Allah, the way You have made me perfect in Creation, perfect my character.”
After we posted the above hadith in the daily post, this question was asked:
“Jazakhallahu khairan ya admin, does it imply every time we look at the mirror we should say the prophet (Salallaahu alayhi wasallam)said?”
ANSWER
Wa iyyaakum, jazaakumullaahu khayran.
Alhamdulillaah, that is true. The hadith narrated by Abu Hurayrah – radiyallaahu an hu – he said that the Messenger of Allaah – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – whenever he looks into the mirror, he says:
” ﺍﻟﻠَّﻬُﻢَّ ﻛَﻤَﺎ ﺣَﺴَّﻨْﺖَ ﺧَﻠْﻘِﻲ ﻓَﺄَﺣْﺴِﻦْ ﺧُﻠُﻘِﻲ ، ﻭَﺣَﺮِّﻡْ ﻭَﺟْﻬِﻲ ﻋَﻠَﻰ ﺍﻟﻨَّﺎﺭِ ”
At-Tabaraani recorded it in Al-Awsat, Al-Bayhaqi in ‘Shu’bu Al-Imaan’ and Ibn As-Sanni in ‘Amalu Al-Yawmi Wa Al-Layla’
It is also recorded in Gharaa’ib Maalik bn Anas from A’isha – radiyallaahu anha.
Al-Haafidh Al-Iraaqi – rahimahullaah – in his checking of the book ‘Ihyaa Ulumi Ad-Din’ mentioned the various chains of the Hadith and referred to them as weak while some of the Fuqahaa hold that its various chains strengthen its use. But the Ulamaa encourage reciting it as is mentioned in the Hadīth.
