#346: Ruling on Salat and Dhikr in a House with Displayed Pictures
” As Salam alaykum warahamatullahi wabarokatuh. Please is the solah, dua or dhikr made in a house which pictures is displayed accepted or not?”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum salaam warahmatullaah wabarakaatuh.
Alhamdulillaah, while there are Ahaadith that show that the Angels of mercy will not enter into homes that have the pictures of living things in them, there is no hadith that shows that it is impermissible to observe Salaat in them or that such Salaat was unaccepted.
Instead, there are Ahaadith that show the acceptability of such Salaat.
It has come in the Hadith that is reported by Anas bn Maalik – radiyallaahu ‘an hu – that once, the curtain of A’isha that covered one part of her house, the Rasul – salallaahi ‘alayhi wasallam – when he finished observing Salaat said:
“Take away this curtain of yours from us for its pictures have not ceased distracting me during my Salaat.”
Recorded and transmitted by Bukhaari and Ahmad.
Imaam An-Nawawi – rahimahullaah – said:
“It is disliked to observe Salaat in clothes that have pictures or illustrations that can cause distractions but the Salaat is sound even if some imaginations or distractions of the heart. And this is in accordance with the consensus of all those whose opinions are valid.
