Q&A (Fatwa)

#374: Reciting more than One Verse in One Breathe During the Salat

QUESTION

“Sir when reciting suratul fatiha for subhi, magrib, and isha prayers is it true that u mustn’t join the verses of Suratul fatiha
As in when you are the imam”

ANSWER

Alhamdulillaah!

Baarakallaahu feekum. The majority of the Ulamaa disliked generally reciting two or more verses in one stretch and breathe without pausing at the end of each aayah while others viewed that it were permissible to do that as long as it does not affect the meanings of the verses adversely.

All of the Ulamaa are at a consensus that it is worse when doing so affects the meanings of the verses.

Beloved one, this has nothing to do with whether he is on Salaat or not and we hope that, if a believer observing Salaat does this, either way, it has not affected the acceptance of his Salaat.

Allāhu A’alam

Bārakallāhu Fīkum. Jazākumullāhu Khayran.
