#397: Compensating for Salat
QUESTION
ON OBSERVING THE SALĀT WITH SOMEONE WHO HAS NOT OBSERVED HIS, SO AS TO MAKE IT A JAMA’A FOR HIM
” Salamu Alaykum warahmatullah wabarakatuh
Is permissible after an obligatory sallah, to join someone who is praying alone just for him to get the reward of jama’ah”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum salaam warahmatullaah wabarakaatuh
Alhamdulillaah, this is permissible and accepted in Islam.
This is due to the Hadith narrated by Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud – radiyallaahu an hu – that Mu’adh Ibn Jabal used to observe the Salaat with the Messenger of Allāh – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – Salaatu Al-Ishaa and then he would return to his people and lead them in the same Salaat.”
What we have mentioned above is the Shafi’i position and one of the mentioned verdicts from the Hanbalis.
It is mentioned in Al-Muhadhdhab in the Shaafi’i madh’hab:
“And it is permissible that the one observing the Fard observes it behind the one observing the Nafl, and the one observing the Nafl to do it behind one who is observing the Fard…”
As for the Maalikis, they disagree with this verdict. But the evidence of the Hadīth overcomes their Ijtihad.
Allāhu A’alam.
Bārakallāhu Fīkum
Jazākumullāhu Khayran.
