QUESTION
” Assalamu alaikum
Ya admin, may Allah increase you in beneficial knowledge.
My questions is as follows :
1. Is it allowed to give a child the same name with parent, e.g Ibrahim bin Ibrahim
2. Is it allowed to give name like Abdulyekeen to child (ie Is yekeen a name or attribute of Allah )
Jazakallahu khairan”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum salaam warahmatullāhi wabarakātuh
Alhamdulillāh, āmīn to your du’a and may Allah grant you same āmīn.
To name a child the same name as his father or grandfather is not among the kinds of naming that are forbidden and prohibited in the Shari’a. Among the predecessors have come many of the Ulamā and Righteous men that named their sons the same as themselves. An example is the Imām of the Qurraa’ Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Al-Jazari – rahimahullāh
Concerning the name ‘Al-Yakin’, there is no evidence in the Qur’an nor the Hadith to justify that it is one of the Names of Allah. Therefore, it wouldn’t be proper to give the name Abdulyakin.
