#45. RECITING THE QUR’AN IN GROUPS
” Assalamu alaykum
People in the community where I live have a certain practice with regards to reciting d Quran. Mostly, before subhi, someone reads d Quran while others listen with or without using the mushaf.
Through this, they are able to do khatma of d Quran or at least read a significant amount.
They also do it after S. Asr.
Q. Is this pattern correct?”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum salaam warahmatullaah wabarakaatuh
Alhamdulillaah!
What is referred to was known to be practiced in the Middle Ages in the history of the Qurraa (Reciters) of Madinah.
The Ulamaa differed slightly on its ruling. Whereas the majority held that it were permissible as long as there is no innovations attached to its practice, some few preferred that it be avoided.
What seems authentic, and Allah knows best, is that it is permissible as long as the recitation is made with Ikhlaas, the Tajwid and for the purpose of encouraging the people on the importance of the Khatmah.

Jazaakumullaahu khayran.
