ANSWER

Wa alaykum Salaam Warahmatullaah wabarakaatuh.

Alhamdulillaah! We are also happy to have you as a member on this blessed platform, baarakallaahu feekum.

Alhamdulillaah! It is obligatory in Islam to respect and treat the parents well.

Allaah – ta’aala – said:

: وَقَضَى رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا {الإسراء: 23}

“And your Lord has ordained that you not worship anyone but Him, and that you are good toward the Parents.” Al-Israa: 23

Also, one of the best ways to be good and to display servitude to them is to spend of your wealth on them.

In the Hadith, the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – said:

((إن أطيب ما أكلتم من كسبكم ، وإن أموال أولادكم من كسبكم ، فكلوا هنيئاً . رواه أحمد والترمذي وابن ماجه))

“Indeed the best of what you eat is what you earn by yourselves. And your children’s wealth are of your earnings. So eat (of it) with happiness.”

It was recorded and transmitted by Ahmad, At-Tirmidhi and Ibn Maajah. Shaykh Muhammad Naasiruddin Al-Albaani and Shaykh Shu’aib Al-Arnaa’ut both declared it Sahih.

This shows that your wealth is of the earnings of your parents and it is excellent to spend of it on them.
The Sahih Hadith has shown that one should give preference to the mother over the father whenever it is not possible to be equally good to them both.

It has come in the Hadith of Abu Hurayrah as was recorded by Imaam Al-Bukhaari and Muslim that once a man came to the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – and asked: ‘which of the people is more deserving of my best companionship?’ He answered: ‘your mother’. He repeated that three times before he mentioned the father.
For this reason, majority of the Fuqahaa mentioned that the mother is of preference over the father.
Al-Haafidh Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalaani – rahimahullaah – quoted Qaadi Iyaad – rahimahullaah – in the Fat’h as to have said:
“The majority have posited that in measures of kindness, the mother is to be preferred over the father.”

However there is nothing to prove that you should spend three times on your mother what you spend on your father as your question seem to imply. Rather, the Hadith only refers to the importance of been kind and showing regard and respect to the mother.

Allaahu A’alam
Baarakallaahu feekum
Jazaakumullaahu khayran.
