#499: Can a Sister ask for Divorce if abandoned by Her Husband?

QUESTION

” May Allah ease our affairs.I have a sister in London who has trouble with her marriage. Four years ago her hubby impregnate another lady in U. S, she got to know about it on FB, Since, then the hubby has abandoned her with four kids. He’s not come home for a yr now. And he won’t divorce her. What can she do, as she’s in serious dilemma now. Urgent please”

ANSWER

Alhamdulillāh, may Allāh ease our affairs and make our matters easy, Āmīn.

Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.

Māshā Allāh may Allāh ease her affairs. She has a right to get herself divorced by the authority of a Muslim Cleric in this situation. Then she will observe the ‘Iddah of 1month.

Bārakallāhu fīkum and may Allāh make her matters easy. Āmīn
