QUESTION
” Asalamu Alaikun, Shaykh I said my children are disturbing me about the story of A’man هامان .so I need a reference book for that. though I do tel then story about Islam.”
ANSWER
Wa ‘alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
We ask Allāh to bless you and your children, and to make them of His Pious Servants in this World and of the Inheritors of Firdaws in the Next, āmīn.
We ask this for ourselves, for you and for everyone, āmīn.
The story of Hāmān is one that is very important and full of lessons for every human.
And so important was it that a Passage was dedicated to referring to it in the Qur’ān, in Sūrah al-Qasas.
And it is a story of the repercussions of been ungrateful, rebellious and greedy to Allāh.
It also teaches humility.
The ‘Ulamā explained that the Verse that so succinctly captured the Lessons and Theme of Sūratu Al-Qasas is the verse:
تِلْكَ الدَّارُ الآخِرَةُ نَجْعَلُهَا لِلَّذِينَ لا يُرِيدُونَ عُلُوًّا فِي الأَرْضِ وَلا فَسَادًا وَالْعَاقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
“Such is the Home of the Hereafter which We have reserved for those who desire not Superiority in the Earth nor to spread Corruption, and the end is for the Pious.”
In the Tafsir of this verse, Shaykh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah – rahimahullāh – said that People were of four types.
The First Category, those who desire to have superiority and leadership over others in the land, and desire to spread corruption likewise.
Their likes are Fir’awn and the Tawāghīt leaders who desire to rule and lead and submit others to themselves while at the same time desire to Rule with other than the Book of Allāh and corrupt the earth.
About Fir’awn, in the same Sūrah, Allāh said:
إِنَّ فِرْعَوْنَ عَلا فِي الأَرْضِ وَجَعَلَ أَهْلَهَا شِيَعًا يَسْتَضْعِفُ طَائِفَةً مِنْهُمْ يُذَبِّحُ أَبْنَاءَهُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيِي نِسَاءَهُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُفْسِدِينَ
“Indeed Fir’awn was tyranous in the Land. He categorized and splitted its people: weakening some, killing their sons and sparing their women. He was indeed of those that sow corruption.”
The Second Category, are those that desire to sow corruption in the Land but do not desire leadership and tyranny.
Such as the Armed Robbers and Bandits.
The Third Category, are those that desire Leadership but do not desire to sow corruption. They only desire to be leaders and superiors over others.
The Fourth Category, are those who desire not superiority, desire not leadership, desire not Corruption, and want to remain humble and focused Servants of Allāh.
Thus Allāh explains to us in the verse that only the fourth Category are those that will inherit the Home of the Hereafter by default for it is them that sow no corruption on the Earth and do not consider themselves higher than others nor want to be above them.
The Story of Hāmān and Fir’awn is the story of those that wanted superiority over others, to make them worship them, and to sow corruption on the earth at the same time.
We recommend that you take from the book ‘Stories of the Prophets’ (Qisas Anbiyā) of Imām Ibn Kathīr, from the books of Tafsīr, and from Ulamā in your vicinity.
We ask Allāh for Tawhid and Steadfastness of it, āmīn.
Bārakallāhu fīkum.
Jazākumullāhu Khayran.
