#560: The One who observes Special Prayers on the Day of the Isrā
QUESTION
” Assalam alaykum, what can we tell someone asking people to observe special nafilat on the day Prophet Muhammad made israi wal mihraj?”
ANSWER
Wa ‘alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
Alhamdulillāh.
Firstly, Bārakallāhu fīkum, it should be known that our historians differ on the date and night of the Isrā and Mi’irāj. The Muhaddith Imām Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalānī – rahimahullāh – in the Fat’h mentioned over twenty different dates that have been referred to as the Night of the Isrā.
Secondly, had this night been specific and agreed upon to be on a certain date, such as the 27th day of Rajab, as many take it, it wouldn’t still be legal to take it as a special day/night where there are fast and prayers. This is because the Rasūl – salallāhu alayhi wasallam – and his Companions never considered it as such and there is no Ijtihād (Deductive Reasoning) in matters of ‘Ibādah.
Tell him/her, may Allāh streghten you, that it is an innovation in the Dīn and every innovation is misguidance as agreed upon.
Bārakallāhu fīkum
Jazākumullāhu Khayran
2nd Sha’ban 1439AH.
