#572: Can a Castrated Animal be used for ʿAqīqah or Adʿhā
QUESTION
” Salaam alaikum warahmatullaah wabaarakaatuhu. Please I WANT TO ASK A QUESTION : CAN MUSLIMS KILL A CASTRATED ANIMAL FOR ‘AQIIQAH AND’ IIDUL ADHAH?”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
Alhamdulillāh.
As for castration, may Allāh be merciful to us, it should be known that the sound position in its regards is a forbiddance. This is due to the Hadīth recorded by Imām Ahmad in his Musnad from ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar – radiyallāhu anhumā – saying:
نهى عن خصاء الخيل و البهائم
“He forbade from the castration of horses and domestic Animals.”
This Hadīth was declared by Shaykh Muhammad Nāsiruddīn Al-Albānī to be Sahih in his Sahīhu Al-Jāmi’ī.
And there is no evidence presented to the contrary by some of the Ulamā that hold that Castration was permissible.
As for using the Castrated Animal for either the ‘Aqīqah or the Ud’hiyah, then know that there has been nothing in the Sharī’a to prove it impermissible.
Instead, there is evidence to show that the Rasūl – salallāhu alayhi wasallam – used Castrated Rams for his ‘Ud’hiyyah as was related by Ā’ishah – radiyallāhu ‘anhā – as recorded by Ibn Mājah and others:
ضحى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بكبشين أملحين موجوءين.
“The Messenger of Allāh – salallāhu alayhi wasallam – used as Sacrifice two large, fat, horned, black-and-white, castrated rams”
What holds therefore, is the permissibility of using the castrated for the ‘Ud’hiyyah.
And that which applies for the ‘Ud’hiyyah also applies the the ‘Aqīqah.
And Allāh knows best
Bārakallāhu fīkum
Jazākumullāhu Khayran.
