#576: Can Oiling the Moustache be done for Beautification

QUESTION

” As long as it’s not for beautification 😳, is it wrong to have this intention? Even though one is doing it on d basis of following d sunnah?”

ANSWER

Alhamdulillāh.

Beloved brother, what was meant by the Imām Ibn Najīm Al-Hanafī is that the moustache is not grown in accordance to the Sunnah.

This is because moustache trimming and beards growing is the Sunnah of the Rasūl – salallāhu alayhi wasallam – and he commanded that we go against the tradition of the Jews who spare their moustaches and allow them to grow. It therefore becomes apparent that the moustache is not to be grown for the purpose of beautification.
