#580: Compensating for Ramadān
QUESTION
I HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO COMPENSATE THE FAST I MISSED DUE TO CHILDBIRTH AND BREAST FEEDING, WHAT DO I DO?
” Assalamu alaykum admin. Urgent question on Fasting pls. I didn’t fast during Ramadan in the year 2010 due to pregnancy. I haven’t been able to compensate till date due to other childbirths. I’m currently breastfeeding. How can I atone for the fasts I’m owing since that year? Can I feed someone during this current fast with the intention of atoning for the Ramadhan of 2010. Also, if it’s permitted to feed, can I make use of the Islamnode Ramadhan feeding program?”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
Alhamdulillāh.
If you were of those who may not fast due to ill health, pregnancy or breast feeding, then there is no harm upon you if you haven’t been able to compensate for the fasting missed till date. And feeding for you is not an alternative as long as your condition today is not permanent and it is hoped for you that you will be free of this situation.
Therefore, what we advise you to do is to keep a perfect count of your missed fasts and do them as soon as you are able to compensate for them.
And Allāh knows best
