#582: The Authenticity of a statement attributed to the Rasūl that the Istighfār of a Menstruating Woman is equivalent to Hajj and Umrah
QUESTION
“Menstruation in Ramdaan…… It is related in a hadith that Rasoolullah (pbuh) said if a woman reads (at her time of haidh- menstruation).SUB HAANAKA ASTAGHFIRULLAAHAL LATHEE LAA ILAAHA ILLAA HUWAL HAYYUL QAYYum 70 times at the time of every salaah or any other istighfaar even if it be astagfirullah only.,then she will get the reward of reading 1000 rakaats of salaah, 70 of her sins are forgiven , her status is raised in the eyes of Allah and for every letter of istighfaar, she gets a noor and for every vein in the body, one hajj and umrah is written! (Masjalisul Abraar, taken from tasheelul fiqh book 9 , compiled by Jamiatul Ulamaa, Gauteng)- pass it to all the ladies”
Assalaamu’alaikum can I have a fatwah on this please, is it true?Is it authentic?”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
Alhamdulillāh.
Dear Sister, may Allāh grant you the best there is of rewards for the Seeker of Knowledge, āmīn.
Know, may Allāh bless us altogether, that knowledge in the Dīn as Shaykhu Al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah said in his Muqaddimah on Tafsīr is:
نقل مصدق عن معصوم، أو قول عليه دليل معلوم، وما سوى ذلك فإما مزيف مردود، وإما موقوف لا يعلم أنه بهرج ولا منقود.
“Either a truly and authentic quotation from the Infallible (Prophet), or a Statement that is grounded with a clearly known Evidence. And what is other than these is either a fabrication that is rejected or a statement of someone else which is not known to be baseless and rejected.”
Thus, whenever a Statement is attributed to the Prophet – salallāhu alayhi wasallam – it is obligatory upon the one who makes such a quotation to give an authentic reference with an unbroken Chain to the Rasūl – salallāhu alayhi wasallam.
The statement about which you ask is one of those fabricated Ahādith out there making the rounds. There is no proof for this statement and to fabricate a Hadīth and attribute it to the Rasul – salallāhu alayhi wasallam – is one of the great sins that one can commit. And the one who propagates a fabricated Hadīth knowing it to be so is guilty of sharing in the crime of fabrication.
Therefore, we advice you to educate those that share this fabricated statement to desist from that.
Bārakallāhu fīkum!
Jazākumullāhu Khayran.
