#598: Is the One who passed away in Ramadān responsible for the Days he has not Witnessed?
QUESTION
” Salam alaykum… will these owed fasts be only from days her witnessed and missed in the past. Or for remaining days of ramadan, for example, which he died before seeing.
For example… if one dies today, will the 12-13 fast remaining be made up for him?”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
Alhamdulillāh.
The Ulamā are at a consensus that whosoever passes away is not held accountable for whatever has not happened in his lifetime. They are also at an agreement that if he were to have had a viable excuse to miss the fast and passed away before he had the opportunity to make the compensation of the fast, there is no blame upon him and not on his relatives too.
This was mentioned by many of the Ulamā in their books including An-Nawawī – rahimahullāh – in Al-Majmū.
