#601: Ruling on a Pregnant who refuse to Fast
QUESTION
“Assalamu alaykum. Admin, I have a Question concerning woman that was pregnant. What is the Islamic Ruling on a woman that is pregnant complaining that she can’t fast, and to even try and see whether she can fast or not but refused to fast, assalamu alaykum”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
Alhamdulillāh.
We have explained in an answer to other questions that when a woman is pregnant, she has no automatic license to not fast. Rather, she is obligated to fast and allowed to not fast only when she has a legitimate fear to herself or to her baby concerning the fast, or fasting suffers her immensely.
And this cannot be concluded except with the professional advice of a trustworthy medical personnel, or by experience.
In this case, you must advise this sister persistently to the contrary and ask her to fear Allāh and the punishment that is accompanied with His wrath that comes as a result of disobedience.
We ask Allāh to grant her a firm understanding of the Dīn, āmīn.
