#607: Can Du`a for Personal Problems and Needs be included in the Qunūt?
QUESTION
“Assalamu alaikum…Pls can one do al qunut including his wants and needs or for his personal problms in his tahajjud. Jazakallahu khair”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
Alhamdulillāh
There is nothing wrong with this, in accordance to the sounder of two positions among the ‘Ulamā. This is because the required in the Qunūt is to make du’ā.
Despite that, it is better to make such du’ā using the supplications that were made by the Rasūl – salallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam –
Imām Yahyā ibn Sharaf An-Nawawī – rahimahullāh – said:
“And know that the Qunūt is not necessarily to be done on a particular du’ā according to the chosen verdict. And any du’ā that he uses makes the Qunūt sound and acceptable, even if its a verse (that is a du’ā), or verses from the Qur’ān. But what is better is (to use) the wordings that came in the Sunnah.”
And Allāh know best.
Bārakallāhu fīkum
Jazākumullāhu Khayran
