#612: Ruling on reciting the Qurʿān during Rainfall
QUESTION
” Assalamu Alaikun, what is Islamic point of view over recitation of Quran while Raining and during Ramadhan). Jezakumullahu khira.”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
Alhamdulillāh.
Firstly, sorry for the inability to respond to this question within the month of Ramadān. We ask Allāh to forgive us our inefficiencies, āmīn.
There is nothing commanding or preventing the recitation of the Qur’ān while it rains.
Rather what is in the Sunnah is to seek Allāh’s refuge from the probable harm that can come when a rainstorm approaches, to thank Allāh when it rains and to ask Allāh for a beneficial rain when it rains.
In the Hadīth recorded by Imām Al-Bukhārī in Al-Adab Al-Mufrad – rahimahullāh – from Our Mother ‘Ā’ishah – radiyallāhu ‘anhu – the Rasūl – salallāhu alayhi wasallam – would say during rainfall:
اللهم صيبا نافعا
“O Allāh! A beneficial shower”
And from her also as recorded by Muslim in the Sahih:
رحمة
“Mercy (O Allāh)”
From Khālid Ibn Zayd as was recorded by Imām Al-Bukhārī – rahimahullāh :
مطرنا برحمة الله وبرزق الله وبفضل الله
“We have been given rain by the Mercy of Allāh, by the Provision of Allāh and by the Bounty of Allāh”
And in the Hadīth of Anas Ibn Mālik – radiyallāhu ‘anhu – as was recorded by Imām Al-Bukhārī, when the rain gets much he says:
اللهم حوالينا ولا علينا على الآكام –أي الهضاب- والجبال والآجام- أي منبت القصب- والظراب- أي الجبال- والأودية ومنابت الشجر
“O Allah, may it be around us and not upon us, upon the hills and mountains, and the center of the valleys, and upon the forested lands”
It is also generally recommended to make Du’ā during its fall as was mentioned by Shaykhu Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah in Majmū’atu Al-Fatāwah
And Allāh knows best
Bārakallāhu fīkum
Jazākumullāhu Khayran
