#644: Should I tell Her first before going to see Her Guardian for Marriage?
QUESTION:
“Na’am…Jazakumullah khayran…. you said I should speak to her guardian before her if neccsary,,,Can I tell her I want to see her parent…”
ANSWER:
Alhamdulillāh.
After our response (No. 665 on the Channel) to a Question on seeking the hands of a School Sister in marriage, we have received this question seeking further clarification from you.
Please note that the permission to speak to the girl on this matter is to be granted by the Guardians in the first place, not by yourself, nor by her. You are therefore expected to seek her guardians for the purpose of this permission seeking.
The exemption to this is if in doing that you may jeopardize the success of this Initiative. In such a situation, you are expected to make your intentions known to her through other persons such as the Muslim Society Patrons or any other Muslim Authorities in the School Community that she respects and may listen to. When her permission for this is gotten, you may then proceed to seek her Parent’s/Guardian’s permission.
And Allāh knows best
