#682: Ruling on Wiping the Face after Du`a
QUESTION:
“Assalaamu alaykum warahmatullāh . May Allah reward you for your efforts. Is there any hadith that indicates Rasool (S.A.W) rubbing his face with his palms after making du’a apart from when he goes to bed?”
ANSWER:
Wa ‘Alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
Alhamdulillāh.
May Allāh reward you abundantly for your Du’ā and may He accept them, amīn.
As for wiping the face with the hands after making Du’ā, then there is no Sound Hadīth recorded from the Rasūl – salallāhu Alayhi Wasallam – sanctioning this.
The only position where wiping of body after recitation has been reported is when one is about to sleep as is evidenced in the Hadith of Ummu Al-Mu’minīn ‘Ā’ishah – radiyallāhu ‘anhā.
Though some Ulamā attempted to justify this act, it is weak and lacks no basis of strength.
It therefore remains a Bid’a that people have initiated into the Dīn without sanction.
Shaykhu Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned this is Majmū’atu Al-Fatāwah.
Shaykh ‘Abdullah Dan Fodio also mentioned it in his illustrous book Lubābu Al-Madkhal
Bārakallāhu Fīkum
Jazākumullāhu Khayran.
