#710: Reference for the Saying: We were taught the Maghāzī like the Qurʿān

QUESTION:

“Please where can I find this saying of ibn umar “we are taught the magazi(seerah) of the rosul as we are taught the Qur’an”……..it’s urgent”

ANSWER:

Alhamdulillāh.

It is mentioned in the Book “Al-Jāmi’ Li Akhlāqi Ar-Rāwī Wa Ādābi As-Sāmi” from Zaynu Al’Ābidīn ‘Alī bn Al-Husayn that he said:

كُنَّا نُعَلَّمُ مَغَازِيَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسَرَايَاهُ كَمَا نُعَلَّمُ السُّورَةَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ

“We used to study the Maghāzī (Battles and Military expeditions) of the Prophet – salallāhu Alayhi Wasallam – and his Lifetime the same way we would study the Surah from the Qur’ān”.

This draws our attention to learning and studying keenly the Sīrah History of our earlier generations.

This is one aspect of our Ilm that our generation has abandoned.

We ask Allāh for Guidance and Tawfīq.
