#780: Ruling on Keeping Malice with a Fellow Muslim

780 QUESTION

“What is the penalty of one who fasting and still keep malice with his fellow muslim.?”

ANSWER:

Know, may Allāh be merciful to you and to us, that the Believer is one with a pure heart and a free mind to himself, his immediate family, his extended family, his neighbours, his community, the entirety of Creation and to His Lord.

It has been reported by ‘Abdullah bn ‘Amru -radiyallahu ‘anhumā that it was said to the Rasūl -salallāhu alayhi wasallam -:

“Which of the People are the best of them?”

He answered:

كل مخموم القلب صدوق اللسان

“One possessed of a pure clean heart, and a truthful and truth-speaking tongue.”

They said:

“As for the truth-speaking tongue, we know that, but which is referred to as a pure clean heart?”

He – salallāhu Alayhi Wasallam – said:

هو التقي النقي لا إثم فيه ولا بغي ولا غل ولا حسد

“It is the pure, clean (heart) which harbours no sin nor transgression, nor malice nor envy”

This Hadīth was recorded by Ibn Mājah and considered Sahīh by Shaykh Muhammad Nāsiruddīn Al-Albānī rahimahullāh.

And it is mentioned in the Hadīth recorded by Imām Muslim from Abū Hurayrah – radiyallāhu ‘anhu – that the Rasūl -salallāhu alayhi wasallam – said that on Mondays and Thursdays the gates of Jannah are opened and the sins of every believer who does not associate any Partner with Allāh in Shirk is forgiven except for any two Muslims who are at malice with each other.

If these are established and understood why then should a Muslim refrain from speaking to his Muslim brother in the Month of Ramadan where everyone should be investing in his Ākhirah and praying for Allāh’s forgiveness?

As for penalty, such a person makes the acceptance of his deeds more difficult.

And Allāh knows best.

Bārakallāhu Fīkum
Jazakumullāhu Khayran.
