#81. THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE HADITH IN INHERITANCE
A Brother made post of a Hadith on Inheritance on the platform after which we were asked about its authenticity.
ANSWER
Alhamdulillaah, the Hadith posted goes as follows:
Sunan Ibn Majah, Chapters on Shares of Inheritance
Book 23, Hadith 2823
Narrated ‘It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said:
“O Abu Hurairah. Learn about the inheritance and teach it, for it is half of knowledge, but it will be forgotten. This is the first thing that will be taken away from my nation.'”
Imaam Ash-Shawkaani _rahimahullaah_ said in ‘Naylu Al-Awtaar’:
“The Hadith of Abi Hurayrah was also recorded by Al-Haakim. It is pivotal around the person of Hafs Ibn Umar Ibn Abi Al-‘Attaaf who has been reported as a Matruk (accused of lies).”
Therefore the Hadith is weak in itself though the Ulamaa allowed its quotation due to the acceptance of it by some of the Salaf in accordance with the Madh’hab (School) that allows the use of Weak Hadith that encourage the doing of Good such as this.
Imaam Sufyaan Ibn Uyaynah – _rahimahullaah_ – said:
“It is referred to as half of knowledge because everyone is at one point or the other confronted with it.”
This was quoted by Imaam Ash-Shawkaani in the _’Nayl’.
