#816: Ruling on Pregnancy Conceiving Herbs
816. QUESTION
CAN I GIVE SOME MONEY IN LIEU OF A PREGNANCY CONCEIVING ENABLING HERB GIVEN TO MY WIFE EVEN THOUGH AM NOT SURE IF IT IS FREE OF SIHR?
“Assalamu aleikum. I have a question and decided to message you privately. I married 7 years ago with no issue. We have moved from one hospital to another with no result but my wife was diagnosed of pcos. My brother was facing the same challenge until one woman gave the wife a herb and she conceived with the permission of Allah. I was told it is just pure herb by my brother. I went there today to collect the herb and I asked how much? She told me she doesn’t charge money that I can give her anything but she will slaughter a fowl for sadaqa. She emphasized that she will not use it for any other thing other than distribute among children as sadaqa so that God will answer our prayer on time. She also said if my wife later deliver, we can give her anything of our choice. I gave her 2000 naira for the herb. My questions now are have I committed any sin for giving her 2000 naira? Is it halal for my wife to take this herb? Pls its urgent. Sorry, for taking your time.”
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh
Alhamdulillāh
We thank Allāh on your behalf for the love of Dīn and the self caution.
We apologise for the obvious delay in responding to your question. It is our hope that despite the apparent lateness, benefit is still derived from the answers we are providing, bārakallāhu Fīkum.
Know that inability to conceive can be caused by one of three: health problems, Jinni infection or a mere trial from Allāh. Whenever we face a challenge in this, we are obliged to take it as a health challenge unless this has been cleared before we resort to assuming it’s a Jinni infection.
Now given the situation you have depicted, there is primarily nothing wrong in taking a herb that enhances the chances of conceiving pregnancy as long as it is free of anything spiritual or out of the ordinary.
What seems clear from this story is that there is more to this than she is telling you for the following reasons:
1. Why is she giving a Sadaqah of something specific: fowl?
2. Why is she giving the Sadaqah on your behalf? Why don’t you do it by yourself?
Then,
What are the contents of the herbs she has given you?
If you do not have an answer that is satisfying for these questions, obliging her and taking these things as she has said them is risky for your health, your Īmān and your home.
May Allāh bless you with a Pious offspring and grant your home the sweetness of Īmān, amīn
Jazakumullāhu Khayran
Bārakallāhu Fīkum.
27th Shawwal, 1440AH.
