#831: Ruling on a Mother staying Indoors for Forty Days after Childbirth
830. QUESTION:
“Assalamu ‘Alaykum. What is the islamic ruling on prohibition of mothers from going out until after fourty days after delivery. Jazakumullahu khairan”
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
The Sharī’ah has not prevented women from coming out after Childbirth but this is probably a practice in some traditions. Now, if there are any reasons behind it, and benefits for both Child or Mother, then there is nothing wrong for a Muslim to observe it but as a way of acquiring the benefits anticipated from it not as a way of prohibition. We ask Allāh to bless the nursing mothers and make easy their tasks, amīn.
Bārakallāhu Fīkum.
Jazākumullāhu Khayran.
