#835: Ruling on what is upon a repented Armed Robber concerning his Victim`s Wealth
834. QUESTION:
“Sallam alaykum Ya Shiek, please as regards to a Muslim that start innocently but then becomes a armed robber,he did many operations seizing peoples wealth and killing some,in the long run,ALLAH Touch’s his heart and he repented,now what is the ruling of the wealth he robbed the people of,does he have to return it or give it in charity,if he eventually knew the people he robbed, and in the case of people he robbed and killed does he have to return their property to their families if he knew them and vice versa, Jazakumullahu Khyran.”
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
Armed Robbery is a very grave sin in Islām and the one who carries out armed Robbery upon the Muslims has a severe punishment in the Sharī’ah. If however he repents before he is caught, then it is Obligatory upon him to return that which he has taken to it’s rightful owners as that is a human right that must be returned in this world. We ask Allāh to bless him, accept his repentance and grant him Istiqāmah upon the Truth, amīn.
