Q&A (Fatwa)
#84. WHETHER SAYYIDINA AND IMAAM ALI ARE TWO DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES
“Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullāh…Pls is there any difference between Imam Ali and Sayyidina Ali. I do come across some quotes with such caption”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum salaam warahmatullaah wabarakaatuh
Alhamdulillaah, there is no difference between the two.
By default, whenever such reference is made, it refers to the fourth Khalifah Ali Ibn Abi Taalib – radiyallaahu a’nhu – who was the cousin of the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – and his beloved.
In English, Sayyidina means ‘Our Master’ or ‘Sire’ in traditional English, while Imaam means Leader accordingly.
