#876: Is it required of the One who is not attending Jumu`ah to observe Ghusl?
876. QUESTION:
“If one of the conditions for jumu’ah is ghusl, it is also required for the one who does not attend it to also perform ghusl”
ANSWER:
Alhamdulillāh
It is not required of the one who is not observing the Jumu’ah to observe the Ghusl except by way of honouring the Day and emulating the People who are in Jumu’ah. The reason for this is because the Rasūl -salallāhu Alayhi Wasallam – in the Hadīth that commanded the Ghusl was specific on those who observed the Jumu’ah.
He said – salallāhu Alayhi Wasallam :
من أتى الجمعة من الرجال والنساء فليغتسل, ومن لم يأتها فليس عليه غسل من الرجال والنساء.
رواه البيهقي
“Whosoever among men or women that attends the Jumu’ah, let him observe the Ghusl. Whomsoever does not attend does not have to observe the Ghusl whether man or woman.”
While some of the Ulamā considered this Hadīth to be weak, others considered it sound and Authentic.
What we have said above is the position of the majority of the Fuqahā.
