Q&A (Fatwa)

#88. AM I ALLOWED TO BORROW MONEY FROM AN ENTITY THAT EARNS FRON HARAAM?

“As salam’alaykum warahmatullah wabarakaatu. May Allah reward you for the good work. Pls am I allowed to borrow money from someone or company that there wealth is haram? Is the profit made on transacting with such money halal? Jazaakallah khairan”

ANSWER

Wa alaykum salaam warahmatullaah wabarakaatuh

May Allah reward you too, aameen

Alhamdulillaah!

It is not permissible for you to borrow money from such a person or such a company once it becomes crystal clear that its income is Haraam. This is because the money said is illegally taken by its possessor and borrowing such from him is a sort of support for what he is doing. This is if his/its wealth is completely haraam.

If however the wealth is mixed between that which is haraam and that which is not, then the preponderant verdict is its permissibility with dislike ( Makruh).

Allaahu A’alam
Baarakallaahu feekum
Jazaakumullaahu khayran.
